Why Do We Celebrate Communion?

As a church, a group of Christ-followers, we must admit that we do some things that might seem pretty strange to the world around us. Communion or the Lord’s Supper is one of those things. But if we’re honest, these things aren’t always clear to us either. Why do we do what we do? Do we really know why we gather and sing? Do we understand communion and baptism clearly? These are the kinds of topics and questions I would like to tackle in this new sermon series that we are beginning today.

From Series: "Why Do We Do That?"

As a church, a group of Christ-followers, we must admit that we do some things that might seem pretty strange to the world around us. Communion or the Lord’s Supper is one of those things. But baptism is another odd thing to people. We sing, we confess, we give, we have fellowship… these words and practices often confuse people who are looking in at us. But if we’re honest, these things aren’t always clear to us either. Why do we do what we do? Do we really know why we gather and sing? Do we understand communion and baptism clearly? Why should we practice giving of our finances? Why should we get together outside of Sunday mornings too? These are the kinds of topics and questions I would like to tackle in this new sermon series, "Why Do We Do That?"
